Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens and So Much More
Get up close and personal with nature at Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. The majestic Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens stretch across almost 50 acres sandwiched between Highway 1 and the Pacific Ocean. The terrain is a spectacular array of manicured gardens, a closed-cone pine forest, coastal bluffs, fern-covered canyons, and wetlands.
Stroll among diverse perennials, trees, and shrubs. Make sure to pack your binoculars as some 180 species of birds frequent the property. In addition, Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens hosts a number of educational programs and events throughout the year, making each visit to the lush grounds always a unique and exciting venture.
Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens
Because of the moderate coastal climate, a variety of plant species thrives in the botanical gardens. Depending on the time of year, visitors will be enchanted with blooming rhododendrons, magnolias, camellias, azaleas, and other coastal and forest wildflowers.
Wildlife
Birdwatchers can observe mass migrations during the spring and fall or join one of the monthly birdwatching walks led by the Mendocino Coast Audubon. From the tops of the coastal bluffs, visitors can glimpse peak whale migration in the winter and spring.
For the kiddos, go on a scavenger hunt throughout the grounds, searching for the 17 quail markers left by the garden’s special feathered friend, Quincy the Quail. A Quail Trail Guide leads visitors on a fun-filled journey all about quails.
Educational Outreach
A spectrum of classes are offered at Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens for new and experienced gardeners. Popular workshops include identification and cultivations of mushrooms and other plant varieties, gardening techniques and design, and garden tool care.
Special Events
There is always something to celebrate at the botanical gardens. Several events are scheduled with each passing season. Upcoming events include “Yoga at the Gardens,” “Symphony at the Gardens,” and “Art in the Gardens 2021.”
