Campfire Recipe: Campfire Cinnamon Roll Skillet

Sweet, simple, and perfect with morning coffee.

Few things beat the smell of cinnamon rolls cooking over a campfire. This easy skillet recipe is a campground favorite because it takes almost no prep, uses just a few ingredients, and turns out warm, gooey, and delicious every time.

It’s the kind of breakfast that gets everyone out of their RV early — especially when that cinnamon smell starts drifting through the campground.

Best of all, you can make it right over the fire while the coffee is brewing.

Ingredients (Serves 3–4)

  • 1 can refrigerated cinnamon rolls (with icing)

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • ¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

  • Cast iron skillet or foil pan

Instructions

1. Heat Your Skillet

Place a cast iron skillet over campfire coals or on a grill grate over the fire. Let it warm up for a minute or two, then add the butter and let it melt.

2. Add the Cinnamon Rolls

Open the cinnamon roll can and place the rolls in the skillet. Arrange them so they sit close together but still have a little room to expand.

If you're feeling fancy, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the top and add a little extra cinnamon.

3. Cover and Cook

Cover the skillet with foil or a lid if you have one. This helps trap heat and cook the rolls evenly.

Let them cook slowly over the coals for about 15–20 minutes, checking occasionally. Rotate the skillet if needed so they cook evenly.

You’ll know they’re ready when the tops are golden brown and the centers are cooked through.

4. Add the Icing

Once the rolls are done, remove the skillet from the heat and drizzle the icing over the top while they’re still warm.

The icing melts into all the cracks and turns the whole skillet into one gooey, cinnamon-filled masterpiece.

How to Serve

Pull apart the rolls and serve them warm right out of the skillet.

Pair them with:

  • A hot cup of campground coffee

  • Fresh fruit

  • Or a side of bacon cooked over the fire

It’s a simple breakfast, but it feels like a treat — especially when you're sitting outside your RV watching the campground wake up.

Camper Tip

If you’re cooking for a bigger group, bring two cans of cinnamon rolls and make a bigger skillet batch. They disappear fast once people smell them cooking.

You can also prep this recipe on a propane grill at your RV site if you don’t have a campfire going.

Why Campfire Cooking Is So Good

One of the best parts of staying at an RV park is slowing down and enjoying simple moments — and campfire cooking is part of that experience.

Meals don’t have to be complicated to be memorable. Sometimes all it takes is a hot fire, a cast iron skillet, and a few ingredients to create something everyone will gather around.

And when cinnamon rolls are involved, nobody complains.
